The Xbox 360 controller is very easy to repair or adjust, because most components are easily removed. If you want to change the button or control rod, you can remove the case and open it. Then you can clean it with alcohol or replace it completely. However, keep in mind that you can only remove the thumb grip from the joystick. If you want to change the activation button or the actual lever mechanism, you must desolder it as shown in this video. If you prefer step by step with photos, Instructable is quite good (and is an inspiration for this publication).
The Xbox One driver, unfortunately, is not so easy to use. You can open it and clean it if necessary, and replace the front cover. But if you want to replace a stick or button, you will need several pieces of welding. The video above shows you what to do, but this is clearly more difficult. However, it is assumed that the next Xbox One Elite controller will be more modifiable and will be released in October.
PlayStation 3 and 4 controllers
The PlayStation3 controller can be modified enough; You can replace the thumb pad, D-pad and all buttons. You can also replace the case, if your case is damaged or if you want new colors (just make sure you are compatible - there are several different variations of the official PS3 controller). The PlayStation 4 controller is a bit more complicated, but still very decent. Like a PS3 controller, you can replace buttons, triggers, thumb pads, D-pad and even batteries (if you want a longer battery life). Some people have even replaced the Xbox thumb lever pads. The video above shows how to replace most buttons, while this video shows how to replace the trigger. Be careful with the ribbon cable when you open it.
