Porcelain enamel is an attractive and durable bathtub surface, but can break. You can fix a chipped porcelain tub with some easily accessible material. When the chip is in an area that is always dry, such as the outer surface of the tub, a single repair must do the job. However, damage may require repetitive repairs when the chip is in the container.
The things you need:
- Hair dryer
- 220 grit of sandpaper
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotonetes
- Clean tile or glass pieces
- Porcelain repair compound
- High gloss alkyd paint.
- Spatula
- Razor
- Nail polish remover
Tips
You can buy a nail polish remover without acetone that meets strict state emission standards. These removers contain alternative ingredients, such as methyl acetate.
Dry the exfoliated area thoroughly with a hair dryer. The surface must be completely dry so that the repair compound can stick.
Sand the exfoliated area with 220-grit sandpaper until the edges are smooth. To avoid scratches on the surface of the porcelain around it, only sand in the area is damaged.
Clean the sanded area with cotton moistened with alcohol. Allow the surface to dry completely before using the porcelain repair compound.
Mix glazed porcelain and alkyd-based paint repair compounds on a clean sheet of glass or glass. Stir the mixture with wooden blocks. Add a little color at a time until the mixture has the same color as the porcelain surface.
Take a little mixture of the compound with a spatula and apply it in the middle of the peeled area. Spread the compound towards the edge of the chip and gradually add the compound to cover the edge. Rub the excess compound until the tip of the chip is flat with the surface of the tub around it.
Let the compound dry for at least 12 hours. Combine the edges of the dry compound with cotton soaked with nail polish remover.
