Repair of laminate floors

Next project
Laminate floor get ding? Whether it's a small chip or a large divot, you can fix it with a simple DIY technique that makes the floor look as good as the new.

Tools needed for this project

Prepare the tools needed for this DIY project before you begin: You will save time and frustration.

  • 4 in 1 screwdriver
  • Circular saw
  • Drill set
  • Drill / driver - wireless
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Spatula
  • Rules
  • Usage knife
  • Wood chisel
  • Wood glue
  • Material Required for this Project

Avoid last-minute shopping trips by preparing all your material beforehand. The following is the list.

  • Cleaning solvent
  • Extra floor
  • Laminated floor fillings

Step 1: Evaluate the damage to the laminate floor

You can fix small chips and scratches on the laminate floor with fillers from the center of the house (see below). But if the damage is serious, you must replace the table (yes save some installations, right?). This is a job that you can do yourself in about two hours. Apart from a backup table, you need a circular saw, hammer and chisel, router or table saw, drill and wood glue.

Some floor experts recommend removing the mold from the base and opening and numbering each board until you reach the damaged part. It works if the broken board is near the wall. But believe me, if the broken part is more than a few lines from the wall, it's actually faster to just cut it. If your laminate floor is stuck, the extraction routine will not function at all. See "Replacing the Fixed Table" below.

Step 2: Replace the 'snap together' board

  •  delete the middle part

Adjust your saw's depth a little deeper than the floor thickness. Then lift the blade guard and soak the knife in the cut line.

  •  Cut into corners.

Cut from the center to the hole drilled at each corner, but not farther! Destroy the rest with chisel.

  •  remove the lower lip.

Value the tongue several times with a utility knife. Then release it with tang. Shave the remaining left with your knife.

Start by drawing a cut line 1-1 / 2 ". From the four ends of the table. Drill 3/8-in. Aid holes at each corner of the cut line and again 1/4 in. From each corner of the table.

Cut the middle part with a circular saw, cutting from one hole to another (photo 1). Then, cut from the center to each corner, stop at the hole in the hole (photo 2). Finally, cut the relief pieces from the center to stitch each board. Hit the chisel in each relief piece to break the uncut part. Next, delete all pieces.

The new board has a slot on one end and one side, and a tongue on the opposite end and side. But you can't install it until you cut the bottom edge of both slots and side tabs. Use a knife to remove it (Photo 3). Here is a tip for cutting slots. Tape the knife into the slot and cut the bottom from inside (or use a table saw).

Apply a piece of wood glue on the four edges of the new board. Insert the new board-nailed tab into the existing floor slot and place the board in place. Clean the excess glue and load the book on the board to dry.

Step 3: replace the glued board

  •  Lift the floor to get leverage.

Slide the dowel or a piece of floor under the seam. Hold the part with the pliers and tilt it down until the jammed seam breaks. Then, lift to break the remaining glue.

  •  Old glue must be lost.

Use a flat bladed screwdriver or a small chisel to remove the old glue. Get the softest surface that allows flush fit and good glue adhesion.

Most laminate floors are bonded with glue. But that does not mean I cannot make patches "on the spot" on that floor either. Follow all cutting instructions shown for pressurized floors. Then use tweezers to break the glue. Clean the old glue and lie on the new table.

Repair minor damage to the laminate floor.

Clean the floor with a solvent and let it dry. Next, squeeze some of the filling
On top of the floor or mixing board and mix with the spatula until it starts to dry. Then press the shallow layer on the chip. Don't try to fill all the chips in one application. Clean any excess with a solvent. Let the first layer stand for one hour before applying the next one.

After the filling has hardened, use a knife to double the grain pattern. Darken the pieces with a furniture retouching marker.
