Things can become slippery in the bathroom, and something like a mirror or hair brush can fall and break the shower base. Whether you have a fiberglass shower enclosure or a tile shower enclosure, you can fix it yourself, although the procedure for patching fiberglass is a little different from laying tiles. Fiberglass fillers are best for repairing fiberglass, while tile repairs are best done with paints and resins, which can be combined closer to glass-coated ceramics. You may have to maintain the bath limit for one or two days.
The things you need :
- Multipurpose cleaner
- Automatic body filling
- A piece of cardboard
- Plastic spatula
- Wet / dry sandpaper, items 320 or 400
- Repairing enamel
- Cleaning detergent
- Hair dryer
- Oil based primer
- Brush artist
- Paint
- Two-part epoxy resin
- Stick to it
Tips
The paint will look better if it matches the tile. You might find a small bottle of enamel that fits in a hobby shop. If not, take a photo of the tile with a digital camera and take it to the paint shop to get the appropriate enamel.
Warning
Open windows and doors to provide ventilation when using two-part fillers or epoxy. Hazardous smoke.
Fiberglass Repair
- Wash the affected area with a multipurpose cleaner and water and dry it. Give 20 to 30 minutes for air to dry before continuing.
- Ventilate the area as best as possible and turn on the fan. Mix a little automatic filling with the hardener and mix well. Repair does not require a lot of material, so you may have to mix more than you need; Do it on a piece of cardboard that you can throw away.
- Flatten the filler in the peeled area with a plastic spatula. Rub the knife over the patch to smooth it out and make it as smooth as possible, then let the contents heal for one hour.
- Sand the filler with 320 wet / dry sandpaper or 400 grit to smooth it. The quality of the repair depends on the precision of the sanded, being careful to avoid as much surrounding fiberglass as possible.
- Complete repairs by spraying it with enamel for automotive touch. This is in an aerosol can, and you should be able to find a color matching the strait shower. Let the paint dry overnight before taking a shower.
Repairing Tiles
- Clean the area around the tile with a multipurpose cleaner and water and dry it. Hold the hair dryer on it for several minutes to speed up the air drying process and eliminate all moisture.
- Rub the base oil-based paint on the peeled area with the brush of an artist. Try to avoid so that the primer falls on the surrounding tiles. Let the primer dry for two hours.
- Apply a enamel layer with a brush, completely covering the primer and all dark areas on the chip. Accuracy can determine the quality of repairs.
- Let the paint dry for two hours, then apply the second layer if there is a significant color difference. Repeat until as many colors as possible, then wait 24 hours before continuing.
- Combine two parts of clear epoxy resin with a hardener and apply a little to the fillings, using a toothpick. Apply enough resin to raise the chip level to the level of the surrounding tiles. Let epoxy stand for 24 hours before bathing.
