CAUSE OF DANDRUFF
Although the cause of dandruff is not fully understood, it is now theorized that one of the main causes is the destruction of the natural lipid barrier of the scalp, making it more susceptible to infection by microscopic yeast commonly found on the scalp. . When yeast grows too much, it causes an inflammatory response that destroys the cells of the scalp at high speed, which in turn breaks apart in sticky spots and scales.
This condition is identified by:
- White or light flakes on the scalp, through hair and clothing.
- Itching on the scalp that may be red and inflamed.
Some young teens find that they develop dandruff when they reach puberty because their hygiene habits have not changed to face the challenges of accelerated sebum production recently.
Stress, poor hygiene, and poor diet can make the scalp more susceptible to dandruff. In particular, it is known that foods with high sugar levels worsen fungal infections.
Hair must be brushed regularly to loosen debris and stimulate blood supply to the scalp, which will accelerate the natural immune response to infection.
TREATMENT OF DANDRUFF
There are some habits that you can develop and natural treatments that you can use to treat dandruff.
Nutrition: Excess sugar in food can worsen fungal infections. Try to reduce the intake of processed sugar and starch when treating dandruff.
Cleanse: massage your scalp thoroughly with your fingertips when washing with shampoo. This will help loosen and eliminate dead skin debris and prevent the infection from continuing. Wash your hair every day until the infection has disappeared.
Conditioning: Use protective conditions for hair only at the tip of the hair. Avoid conditioner on the scalp, because it can clog the pores and interfere with the healing of the skin.
Other treatments:
- Massage: massaging the scalp several times a day with just the tip of the finger will stimulate the blood supply to the hair follicles and help loosen dead skin scales.
- Brushing: carefully brushing your hair every day will help loosen and remove dead skin debris, increase smooth flow of sebum along the hair shaft and increase blood supply to hair follicles.
- Wash your hands after brushing and combing your hair: Fungal infections of the skin are very contagious and easy to re-infect them and spread to other areas of the body. That is why it is important to wash your hair every day and comb the loose pieces of dandruff, so that the area of the healthy scalp is not infected. Washing your hands after brushing, massaging, and caring for them will also help prevent re-infection or cross infection.
